Hi Stoinker, welcome aboard.
I too have an XR500R.  I have had it since 1987.. its an RD 1983 model so basically the same as yours.  Mine now sits in the mancave but it is immaculate.  It took me 5 years and $7K to rebuild.  Even has an SS XR's Only exhaust on it which is a work of art.  I got it re registered and rode it around a bit but i treasure it to much now.  The XR500R's are a great bike but getting very long in the tooth.  Just keep an eye on that timing chain!!
Cheers,
Alex

Hi Stoinker... here is a pic of my 83 XR500R.  I rebuilt it over a period of 5 years.  The bike has been in the family since 1987 but ended up as a wreck.  I rebuilt her taking into consideration that i would get her licensed and road worthy.  I got all the brake lights and switches, indicators, high low beam etc, all working perfectly and she passed the inspection and i rode her home.  You can still get the custom SS muffler from XR's Only.  The rims are the original DID's but i had them re anodized gold by Ash's Spoked Wheels.  I even had the original speedo rebuilt and calibrated at Otto Instruments.

Cheers,
Alex
