The BMW M12 is considered to be the highest HP F1 engine ever, (1400HP in qualifying spec... ie. 3 laps 'til blow-up)
A little back-pressure must have helped (obviously didn't hurt).
The bright yellow at the merge shows point of highest pressure & temp.
Some might say So? This is a Turbo engine, it needs pressure before the Turbo!
.
But looking carefully, we can see that the pressure/temp after the outlet of the merge, is significantly lower.
A valid reason for the tight merge here, is to generate Seriously Useful sonic wave effects in the header pipes and exhaust process.
The same engine was used, naturally aspirated, in F2.
Similar pipes & merge with a big megaphone instead of the turbo.
Probably valuable lessons we can learn from M-Power.
I know what I'll be playing with on the SL350 Flat-tracker.
