Ready to get dirty again
« on: April 11, 2015, 12:44:44 pm »
Hi All,

It's been a long time between dust baths - 20 years give or take the odd fang on a mates bike.  I (mis)spent my youth on a variety of trail and MotoX bikes throughout the 80s, then discovered road bikes in my 20s.  I ride a lot - I've put 40,000Km on my present ZX10R and 60,000Km on the CBR600 before that - most of that on the road, but I've done quite a few trackdays at Broadford, Winton, Phillip Island & Eastern Creek.

Last year I had a go on a mates Husky up at Lake Eildon and despite feeling very green, it rekindled my passion for riding dirt.

I've also been thinking about a project bike recently, just for the sake of it - and I thought, "why not kill two birds with one stone and restore my teenage dream bike".  So I'm looking for a 1987/88 Honda CR250 (but would consider a KX250 from the same era) that is need of some TLC.  I don't want a complete basket case, no point making the first restorer too hard :) I don't want to go too early, prefer water cooled with discs front and rear.

What else can I tell ya about myself???

i'm 42, Presently living in Tarneit VIC, love my bikes, photography and heavy metal.  I recently started to learn guitar and am having immense fun attempting to coerce a tune from my ESP F-350 into my Marshall amp :)  I've got an awesome Rottie pup called Scooter who is my helper & shadow

Thanks for the welcome - I'm still hunting for the right bike.  Am sure I'll post more once I get one!

The scar on my right knee tells me drum brakes on a CR480 are a little lacking, and water cooling just gives me more of a challenge when it comes time to change the rings  ;)

As far as suspension travel is concerned; compared to my ZX10, 4" sounds huge  :D :D
