1984 CR 250 Cases

Hi , in the process of rebuilding an 84 , my question is as a Euro bike owner that have much stronger and robust cases are Honda cases paired & line bored as a set ..........can you mix and match as I have only one good left and one good right and they are from different engines ?Not used to die cast cheese ......I am sure these Honda's perform ok but they are no CZ in strength ! '
If anyone has a good 84 cr 250 engine pm me ! 
Also the rubbish tin crank covers are wasted on both my engines ...can you fit a later model aftermarket crank ?  Any advice is very welcome ...thanks Tim

You must feel like a kid again learning all these new things ;D

I think officially the cases are supposed to be a matching set, I remember being told this when I needed a new crankcase for my KLX back in 82, I think Kawasaki only sold them as a set however I was able to use a KL case with no drama's.

I think most crank fitters junk those tin cans as they are nearly always a drama and do fork all anyway

You could always buy yourself an 84 CZ ;D

Thanks Geoff , I am just going to trial fit them together if there's no mismatch at the barrel spigot I think it will be ok .... I know if it was euro it wouldn't work each pair are finished together line bored and decked .... These are made by a CNC cheese  extruding machine :-) but probably to identical measurements .... Anyone know about ditching the nasty pressed tin crank stuffers .. Will

Can you (stuff the case) rather than run the tins?

IE fit a insert to the cases.

That would be easier than trying to fix the tins on the crank and you can maintain crank pressure etc

Not really as the tin pressings fit inside the flywheels of the crank .... Not sure how much good they do ? Or if a later model crank might fit ? Cheers Tim

Shouldn't ask questions like that on here, you will never hear the end of it ;D

To the best of my knowledge they just leave the pressings out and they are not missed, best ask someone more experienced in rebuilding these cranks
