There is a guy down at Ocean Grove who has a couple of Monty road racers (maybe three). I bought the last of Lyall's stuff from him. For the life of me I cannot remember his name but he had an awful lot of nice Monty stuff there. I doubt he'd part with any of it.
I know he said he competes in Vintage road racing. That's all I know..... :-\

Is this the dude Ross? this guys name is Peter and he is on the Yahoo Monty group.

Hi, Ryan's in Parramatta sold Rapide 250 road bikes during the early to mid '70's and also Crono 350 & 250 (I think) were sold by O'Brien's in Vic. Photo's attached (I hope). There was also a 175 but not sure if it came to Australia. I remeber a Rapita 250 in the Castrol 6hr at Amaroo park in the mid '70's handled great but brakes let it down and acceleration performance compared twin cylinder Japanese was a little down.

I think you'll find Monty Roadies in Australia are few and far between. But it would be really neat and unquie to come up with one. I think they were half way decent in their time. They were reknown as a sporty bike. I remember coming back from the Alpine Rally along the Alpine way on my YDS5 when overtaken by one doing about 160kph. Of course it didn't go more than about 500 metres in front of me before dying in the bum with a loud dronning sound - it had 'wiskered' a plug (No air filter ::)). The rider was obviously well versed in such doings -  he was knelling next to the bike plug spanner in hand before I got there :o.

Is it something like this that you are looking for or later.

Thats the one Monty, but a 250 ....

There was a very nice Gold Rapida sold on Ebay out of Orange about 12 months ago. It was exceptional and I was temped.

I've never seen a Crono in Oz, neither 'in the day' or since. Not to say there are none but they would be scarce on the ground.

Yep that is the sort of thing I am looking for I think it would be a good run around town bike.... The one with the guy sitting on it looks more like I had in mind. I do like the pictures of the other bikes and really they are quite rare and I not that fussy so really anything that comes up and is going or in need of resto I would consider.....
Cheers

There was a Crono 350 (as new) for sale at CD3.  It looked sensational but didn't sell as far as I know.

I think it is a home made special. Probably based on one of the early enduro models. I think it is a Suzuki front end.

Here's another of Pete's bikes. I think he road races it in Vic.

If you need inspiration how about this one.

Here's another off Jared site.

Said to be a 63M frame and 73M motor. Don't you love the air filter mods ;D. Where theres a will there's a way  ;D.

For some reason the Monty MX'ers seem to convert to road racers/road bikes well, in both performance handing and appearance. You might have to make your own 8) ;) :)

The 63M frame puts the motor lower than any other Montesa mx frame around.  Did take a few day's to figure out what to do for the carb entrance.
the original used a Husky style air cleaner setup, not the best thing for performance!  Raced it a few times and then retired it for street use.
Vibrated so bad, that the carb came off on the way to work one morning.... It's now resting in my spare bedroom, but I do start it every new years eve.
