color in switchgear letters after paint
« on: February 17, 2014, 05:04:44 pm »
Hi,

lm refurbishing some switchgear and it looks really nice with fresh paint so now l want to color in the letters on it.

The gap for the color is really small, too small for a brush so l tried laying the paint over it and dabbing off the excess but the paint (and l tried nail polish) dissolves the base black enough that it comes away and spoils the look. l tried using a tooth pick to get the paint in the letters, that sort of works.....

Primer first, followed by 2 coats of satin black and several days drying.

How do l do it ?

Thanks

Geoff

Maybe try the other way 'round?

Paint the letters first, let dry hard, wet n' dry the oversprayed area, then carefully mask the indented are with vaseline painted in with a small brush, then respray the surrounding area.

 Might be worth a try.

dont follow me i'm probably off line!

It took me a while to get back to this but water based paint was the answer.

Dab the paint in the letters with a very fine brush and wipe off the excess with a damp cloth, bit of polish to tidy it up when the paint dries and good as new.
