Chrome plating rims
« on: August 06, 2014, 11:39:48 am »
Getting a set of wheels rebuilt at the moment but have run into a problem. The 23 and 19 inch rims are new and chromed, however when the spoke holes are punched the result is always cracked chrome. In the past we have had them stripped and re chromed then laced. Present set has been back to the chrome platers 3 times at their expense and been redone due to imperfections. Last time looked good until laced but now have little cracks around a few of the nipples. Am in Brisbane and over time we have used the chromers at Tingalpa, Gold Coast, Pine Rivers, Wizard (old owner of Pine Rivers), the best we found was EPT in Queanbeyan but have run into an issue where his baths can't take the 23 inch rim.

Does anyone know of a top chrome electroplater (going Brisbane to Melbourne in a few weeks so can be Sydney or Melbourne) that can do the job. It's for a display bike so it needs to be top level.

Why to NZ? Is it environmental laws in Queensland preventing it being done properly?

No, just poor quality workmanship. The guy's in Canberra are very good though, just have to wait 6 months for your job to get done.
