Honda CR250 Rear Wheel Bearings
« on: April 13, 2015, 03:07:29 pm »
Is there a special technique to remove the left side large wheel bearing?  I've tried the normal driving and press techniques including warming up the hub but the bearing isn't budging.

Before I put more pressure into it I'd like to be sure there's not a retainer or something in the way.

I've consulted the manual but there is nothing indicated.  I noticed that there is a steel sleeve on the outside of the aluminum housing where the bearing presses in. Is this correct?

I can vouch for the '84 rear hubs.

The bearing is pressed in per normal bike practice.

The threaded retainer is fitted on the drum side.
If you love it, lube it.

If you are talking 78-80,non brake/sprocket side I'm guessing you have removed the alloy threaded insert that the seal sits in?

If so the bearing should just tap out as normal :)

Thanks guys for your comments.  The bearing I was referring too was the brake side so not involving the retainer ring.

Anyway I ended up getting brutal with it as it was plainly obvious that it had to come out.  Got a mate to hold the driving bar and belted it out.  I think the problem was that the innards were rusted and that effected the bearing surface.
