Yokahama super digger
« on: April 12, 2014, 10:19:45 am »
Anyone remember these?
From memory (scary that bit) one of the very best performing rear tyres for my small bore bikes was the 4.10 x 18 yokahama super digger I think that's what it was. Nice open tread pattern, compound and side walls a probably a bit soft for anything over 200cc and didn't last long on hard rocky trails but it was predictable in slides and stuck like the proverbial to a blanket in the soft stuff.

Apparently Yokahama decided to focus its efforts elsewhere and no longer manufacture tyres for bikes but I still want one (seems to be the story of my life).
Does anyone know who bought the licence or makes a tyre equivalent? I don't suppose anyone has one still in reasonable condition?

Yokohama stopped motorcycle manufacturing after their factory got flattened in an earthquake in the 90's. Hey Pokey! What's a tyre like that worth to you? I believe I have a new old stock in Melbourne but she'll be probably gone off by now. I think I bought it from London Trading for a period correct restoration yz125a which still haven't happened. Al

We all ran 540s (most of the time) back in NZ. Used to bulk buy them out of Aussie and we'd all take 4-5 each. There's a guy in Brisbane selling them (Shinkos) now.

Thanks for the info guys. I can remember getting a new one every two months and the new one was always grippier.

Al, I intend on using it on the 185 and I dont have a garage queen so if it would still have to be reasonably usable.PM me if its any good.

I was reading one of my old Dirt Bike mags today and came across this ad. Looks like the Super Digger was new for 1974.
