Yamaha 43mm yz forks 1983
« on: March 04, 2014, 03:50:55 pm »
Hi , I am in the process of restoring a 1981 GS 250 Ktm , I decided to fit a Yamaha front end with the tls brake and 43 mm forks , I hated the look of these forks and decided to skim them in the lathe , stupidly I started to remove the ugly lip that the old gators fitted into after removing a little oil has began weeping out ..is this a screwed together joint or do I need another lower leg ?  :-[
Anyone know ? Thanks Tim.

You're up for a new leg I'd say, mine don't look to be screwed together & I can't imagine a Japanese manufacturer making 2 piece aluminium sliders

After a bit more probing & prodding it seems the collar is indeed just a shrunk on item & I have leaky seals :-) ... Anyway I will remove the ugly collar tonight now it's thin is tapped down the leg about 10mm easy showing it can be done away with ... Cheers Tim
