Not vintage but weirdly cool

Jonesy's lately been on another of his buying sprees, the latest being this 2009 ATK440 flat track model he'll use in the 450 modern class. The engine's a Cannondale EFI 440 fitted with a Falicon billet stroker crank and other go fast goodies. Alan's one of those blokes that likes to be different and is fully aware that it probably won't be as competitive as a Jap 450 but he's a pretty fair rider which will close up the gap a bit. The bike wasn't a bad deal for $3.5k landed here in Oz. Alan enquired about the bike when it was first listed but by the time he got to it someone had left a deposit. A month or so later he emailed the bloke to see if the deal had gone through and it turned out that the buyer had reneged on the deal so Alan jumped at the opportunity. His Ron Wood/CR Axtell ex AMA championship winning '99 model ATK is pretty bloody fast as anyone who was at the Bankstown track test day will have observed so it'll be interesting to see how this one scrubs up in comparison, especially seeing its powered by one of those supposedly 'time bomb' Cannondale motors. Reports I've read are that the EFI mapping based reliability problems that sent the Cannondale factory to the wall are a long way into the past and that the engines are now right up there. That's a good point but I'd rather see more locals on decent equipment sticking it to the Sammys, Henrys and Chris Carrs of the sport. Alan's an old bloke of 54 but is a pretty good rider who would be pretty competitive in the Vets class at TBC. Right now fast and competitive 450 class racers with Durelle suspension and go fast motors can be bought for chicken feed on places like www.vft.org and flattrack.com

Here's a rare 1998 ATK DTES (Electric start dirt tracker) similar to Alan Jones #16 in the previous post, Alan's isn't the electric start model although he's intending to fit one. While this one's not the cheapest ATK I've seen, it looks to be in good nick and complete. If pre 2000 dirt track ever happens you'll be first kid off the block. In the meantime the bike is mid pack competitive with modern Jap 450's and right up there if the engines potential is milked by cunning use of good aftermarket go fast goodies. I've seen these Rotax engines claim 65+hp. According to Alan and Sammy Halbert, the ATK is one of the best handling dirt track chassis....period. I am offering up this unique flat track motorcycle for sale, trade or part out . This dirt tracker is extremely rare, only a handful built as dirt trackers. The bike a 2008 ATK was ordered with a 505 top end and a falicon crank. The bike is crazy fast and very low time. Ohlins suspension and wide sun rims with rad billet hubs. The bike is almost a direct copy of the crf 450s so the rims and front end, bearing and triples will bolt right on to a Honda. I am very reasonable on offers or trades and parting out.
