f shock into d

hi fellas, has anyone fitted a 125f shock into  a 125d with E swingarm?

You will have to fabricate an end for the shaft to lengthen it as there is about an inch difference between them (F shorter) which equates to about 3 inches of travel.

I will probably get this wrong but the shock is allowed but not the swingarm for pre 78?

thanks  i sort of guessed there would be something, really i was just thinking about a bit more suspension to do evo at toowoomba post classics. I realise some are anti this kind of thing but it would be great to ride that track again, cant afford another bike either, anyway cheers.

For evo perfectly legal but the F shock wont give you anymore travel just less fade, due to heat, because of the alloy body over steel.

What I did for my YZ125F was put a 250/400 shock in it. The shocks are actually identical but the 250 has an extra shim in the valving & the 125 runs a 13mm spacer which shortens the stroke, this is removed in the 250/400.  Obviously it runs a heavier spring too. Get about another inch or so travel. To get more in the front I run IT175G dampner rods & top out/rebound springs. The rods are longer & the springs are heavier but shorter which gives about another 3/4" travel. I'm 82kg about 86-87 with all the gear on.

thanks good info, i think the forks are f model so i might start looking for the it stuff. Can i get more travel out of the d shock or does the spacer only apply to the f?

G'day,,
You can lengthen the 125D shock as well,I had my shock rebuilt and lengthened and also the forks rebuilt with new springs and gold valves,I had to run the forks about an inch lower in the clamps to compensate for the back being higher,still have the standard spring on the back,is just a tad soft for my weight of 100+ kilos,

my suspension worked well enough to win heavens pre78 125 class two years running, just remember these are 36 year old bikes, mine in no way is like riding a modern bike its just a better version of what it was I also found by lifting it up it handles landings better but lost some of its cornering due to higher centre of gravity, sorry if that sounds to scientific, not sure were you live but pro moto suspension does all my bikes and all of them are improved 100% cant recommend him enough.

Exactly, lowering the forks will only level the bike not add travel. The mod I said earlier will. Plus possibly run heavier springs in the front.
As for the back shock I would run one out of a 250/400 D or E as the valving is better & the spring is heavier. Think you'll find it easier than fixing the 125 shock. That said though if prepared to spend the money you can get it set up for you. There are aftermarket ones available that are fully adjustable.

yes both good ideas but given the money situation and im about 75 kg , so vipers 250/400 shock suggestion seems the way to go. what fork springs should i look for?
