These Rims any Good?

E74 the quality is fine but they're no good for vintage unless you have a special way of lacing them up. The older bikes use much smaller nipples than the later models which makes the new rims from late models incompatible with older hubs

Ring around some of the wheel builders as they may help , pretty sure I saw some up in Briz-vegas last week  ( Ash's spoked wheelz ) being large nipples with small spokes

I'm chasing the same thing for my YZ front wheel , If you can get the large nipple to suit the small spokes that would solve a problem for me also . Keeps us posted please .

Don't you hate it when you have the wrong nipples (as the plastic surgeon said to the nurse).
I thought that wheel of yours looked fine.  How much difference is there between the big and the small nipples?

So are our old bikes race legal with modern rims? I thought everthing had to be pre whatever class your running.

just so people know the fat nipples dont work on some yzs the use a theread on some bikes thats between 9.5 and 10 and there is no one that currently manafactures tha size

it is possible to get large OD nipples to suit 9G spokes. these 2 places should be able to help

but as others have said these are for modern disc brake hubs and do not fit drum brake hubs. you have to re drill the angles of the holes to suit drum brakes. the best thing to do is get blank rims specially drilled for your old drum brake hubs

As well as the nipple problem, I suspect that those rims are cheapo Chinese softys that flatspot as soon as you hit anything decent.

give Phil a ring at Road n Race,02 43884211,i did a late kwaka mxer rear last nite with 8g,some holes were elongated (from running too loose),used 350's( std 300's),admittedly 8g spokes,but pretty sure will have 9g big nipples,hth!,cheers
