Paul,

Thanks for the pm with the phone no. for the Cagiva for sale. Turns out it's a WMX500.

Hoony,

I rang Michael who owns the bike. He thinks it's an '86 that has had a bottom end rebuild but is a non runner as it needs a re sleave. He is sending me photos.

regards,

AJ

Paul,

I don't know what a re-sleeve would cost, but it is probably the easiest option.

If the 250 is anything to go by, the 500 will be a Nikosil.

Options

1. re nikosil the original bore if it's OK & replace the Cagiva Piston (good luck finding one)

2. Re-sleeve & instal a YZ490 piston.

Pictures of the bike haven't turned up yet.

Hi Aj, post some pics if you get them. i went cold on the bike as parts will be very scarce i suspect.

i don't need that sort of challenge at present.

Hoony,

No probs I'll put up photo's when I get them.

Parts are obviously an issue. They were as rare as rockin horse poo when new. I was always the only Cagiva rider on the grid.

The bloke I've spoken to about rebuilding my 250 has no worries about getting it running. He said engine bearings are metric, he sources pistons by specs rather than model & has a contact in italy that gets him nos from the 1950's onward.

I haven't discussed a 500 with him but I'm sure he mentioned one of the blokes that works for him had wmx500's & has all the tricks to keep one running.

regards,
AJ

Snowy,

Was it a bike or bits? I checked the .US site.  I couldn't find anything. Obviously need a new presciption on the specs.
