Making a gantry

G'day viewers, with Fat-Toy putting a few great projects up. I thought I'd post up my budget gantry I made for under  $500
The slide was made from conveyor chain I picked up from a job I was on. jimson

The I beam was bought from the buy back scheme at my local tip. The welds aren't pretty but they'll hold up, to what I need. I think lol jimson

well done Jimson.like you I like going to the dump shop that's run by local life line here  and I often find good stuff to buy off them.im lucky where I am that if the council loader not there theres no one to stop me putting steel in the back of my ute or trailer,i try to leave with more weight then I came with and love to recycle/repurpose things that would either be buried or sent to china for scrap steel.a good way to save money also and free up money to keep my old bikes going.

  Good job jimson.  A gantry or some way of lifting is a must for every workshop, a way to lift out a motor or unload something heavy, from a trailer etc and having it on wheels is even better.
   I put these projects up for a couple of reasons, first it gives members something different to have a look at, and these type of projects and bike builds are what I like to look at as well.  It also keeps the forum ticking over. I like a lot of you blokes have a look on here most days and sometimes it gets pretty quite.
 There are a couple of threads on here about sharing your projects, be it (bike builds), (home made tools and jigs) or (show us your shed) these are threads I really did like.  The sheds don't have to be big and fancy, I mean what bloke doesn't like having a gander though someone's else's shed.   So any of you blokes who have similar likes take a couple of photos and put them on here.

Thanks, and I'll have a go at making things until it becomes electrical. I'll give that a miss, cause I know I'll either burn it out or myself. Electronics is like a female, I don't understand how either work lol jimson

I had 2 big stuff ups making the gantry one was putting 4 swivel wheels on the gantry as it has no direction when pushing it. So I've bought 2 fixed wheels to go on, and my other stuff up was not realising the weight of the beam going across the top. I thought I could lift it higher with the help of a second person, but ended up putting car jacks either side with a spacer. The gantry has now got three hight settings. jimson

To add to the gantry, I made this engine hoist leveler from a old jack I bought from the buy back scheme at the tip $5

Totally agree Zane.  My shed is a disgrace at the moment.  Not photo worthy
