hello from germany
« on: October 09, 2013, 10:01:22 am »
hello, my name is michael, friends call me von_sieben.
i used to have yamahas when i was 16+, starting with a dt 50, dt 175MX and then yz 250 from 1979.
4 years ago i thought i need to have a yamaha enduro again.
you have to know we don´t have many options here in germany, dirt bikes have never been really popular especially in my area which is very populated and not a lot of space to go on a track.
well, i found this thing, a 1977 yamaha dt 125 e, very cheap.

as you can imagine, i didn´t really like the look of it and stripped it all down to build my own bike just how i wanted it by then.
i changed the engine to a ct-1 (got that from the states, never been sold here in germany), tank is from a 512 model, and seat dt-1.
ignition is powerdynamo.

the bike is running very fine and i after a year i thought about a new projekt, got me a dt-1 1971. i have 2 of them and since they have never been sold here, i have never seen any other in germany.
these bikes are rare here and i´m glad i found this place to learn more about them, i really enjoy working on them as well as riding them.
my 1st dt-1 is running now and to me its one of the best bikes i ever owned, i use it daily.
i only did some light modifications to it and plan to leave it stock more or less.

i have to rt-2´s now and these are very rough basket cases, but planning to build me a race-bike over the winter time.

of course, once you start you will come along stuff you can´t just leave, so there´s more, a ty-80 1976 and a yz-80 1978 plus 2 at-1´s that i just leave for the moment till i have some time to play with them.

the second dt-1 i owned was given to a friend, it´s a basket case too and he strated workin on it to build a custom dt that should run next summer.
we are pretty alone with our yamahas over here... so it´s really good to have some people to ask and i´ve seen already lots on this site that was really enlightening to me. :-)

Welcome to the cyber home of the 'Secret DT1 Cult' von Seiben ;D........I'd have thought that DT1's and early Japanese dirt bikes in general would be unusual in Germany so it's great to see the love of the old bikes spreading into Maico territory. I think you may be our first German forum member ;D.

 Looking like a nice collection!
Sounds like you and your friend need to find a place for a track, have a few 'match races' between yourselves and you will get a trend going!
cheers pancho.
