Have fun riding your VMX bike around Canberra

OK, so you can't exactly roost up the lawns of parliament house.

But there ARE a few events on the calendar in the area that should be good value if you want some competition/fun on your vintage bike.

June 8 ACT DT club day. Racing includes Pre 85 and an Over 35s classes

June 15 ACT MX club day. Racing includes Pre 88 and an Over 35s classes

July 13 ACT DT club day. Racing includes Pre 85 and an Over 35s classes

July 20 ACT MX club day. Racing includes Pre 88 and an Over 35s classes

August 3 ACT DT club day. Racing includes Pre 85 and an Over 35s classes

August 9/10  HEAVEN VMX Rd 6

August 24 Cooma MCC Grasstrack event - apparently to have both a vintage class (Pre 85) and Over 35s.

The ACT DT events are always good value with plenty of races and a decent vintage field. The MX club days are great too and we are hoping to see more riders turning up for the vintage class given the fine condition oif the track nowadays. The whoops are a pain, but most everyone just kinda rolls them anyway. I've even been convinced to take the 75 RM out for the race on the 15th. My plan is to try to stay within sight of the pack...

HEAVEN of course will be great fun as usual.

And the Cooma GT sounds like fun. The Ti-Tree track is actually in town and is big, fast and open. Perfect for my RM125... well, matybe not but I'll give it a go. It's a great track if you like to go fast.

See you there?

Sounds good, myself and a certain Mr Crane are coming down next week for the club day. The August Heaven meeting was looking good too until I noticed it is on the same weekend as the Conondale Classic, ca't miss that one.

That should shake the regulars up a bit. I reckon they've been getting complacent lately - just the same old 3 or 4 'guns' out front. I will look forward to watching.

I've decided to set myself a modest goal - while I will most likely be last on the poor old RM, I reckon with razor sharp reflexes I could just about get the holeshot on it. Now that'd be worth seeing. The only possible weakness in the plan is that my reflexes are... well... more sort of glacial. Worth a try anyway.

And yes, I did notice that the Conondale Classic is on that HEAVEN weekend. Then again I was never gonna get the leave pass for a whole weekend anyway.

See you on the 15th.

Would "Glacial" be an accurate weather decription for the weekend?

Nah, so far we've had a very mild winter. Forecast for winter is warmer than usual and wetter... Probably be a pleasant 2-3 in the morning and as much as a sweltering 14 max!

Not this time Pat. Just doesn't fit plus the TM and RM are all undergoing work. The RM should be a goer next weekend for the MX I hope. With luck I'll be able to afford to finish the TM sometime soon and I'll bring that out to a rec day and get it set up.

still coming to play with us sunday magoo?  hoping to hear tis so (and that you won't be just playing 'shine the goggles guy' either....?).  anyway, there's been a bit o' rain during the week, so track will have nicely soaked that up, but clear by saturday and a top of - wait for it - 15 degrees sunday.  that's right - positively balmy!!!

should be fun.

Well, Magoo couldn't make it but the rest of us did. I think we had about 10 of us on the line, plus half a dozen girls. The day was just brilliant - the track was perfect, the weather mild and clear, and no injuries to speak of.

I discovered that I will have to learn to ride MUCH quicker - the 75 RM125 was no match for all those mid 80s Hondas and KTMs. In fact I think I got beat by all the girls too, though I did manage to pass a couple of them a few times before they got away.

But I'll be back, although next time I'll have made a few changes to try to get the RM a bit more competitive.

I also got to play sponsor lending the 05 YZ out to Gezza to ride in Over 35s. He looked to be going OK on it tho I did cringe when he dropped it off the start after trying to take one of the girls out.
