Where Can You Ride List
« on: April 27, 2011, 10:06:32 pm »
I just picked up a comment on another topic of "Where can you ride in Hervey Bay" I have asked the same question about where we can ride legally in Brisbane? Is it possible Graeme that we can add a "Where You Can Ride List" on this site so everyone can list legal riding locations here so all members can know where to go close to home. I also will throw this out there, in the old days I could get a couple of guy's together and get the keys to our club track and use it off season/off event days. Why can't our clubs do the same today? Sure I undstand that there maybe requirements for someone to hold a First Aid Certificate and maybe be responsible for any track or facilities damage, but surely it should be easier for members to get access to our own facilities on non event days. Sometimes you just need to have somewhere to run the bike for tuning or to test something new out.

Anyway, just and idea to have a look-up directory for places to ride legally by locals for all that are interested. Maybe we could also add some descriptions as well like Flat/Rough/Natural Undulations/Rocky/Sand etc and maybe a star rating out of 5.

I can't believe that no one has contributed to this posting, if you know of any legal ride locations please respond.

Though we are usually considered behind the times, Tasmania actually does well here.
The Government, through the transport departments have actually bothered to put out a book which details many of the proper riding spots throughout the state.

I figured most states would have something similar but apparently not.

It is certainly in the best interests of local councils, getting people into designated riding arears and out of places where they are bothering sensible, non riding folk.

 CENTRAL NSW
LOUEE M/C COMPLEX   Located near Mudgee NSW , Large variety of MX ,Thumpers,Enduro ccts and junior tracks.Attracts big weekend crowds of all levels and abilities ,costs about $45 for a full day, with a kiosk ,showers and limited bike spares. Not very VMX suited (MX in particular ,high tabletops etc etc ), however would do for some Vinduro riders.Courses range from sandy creekbed soils ,to harsh stoney rutted trails, good markers indicate sections and restrictions.Camping and facillities available on site.I would rate a 2/5 for VMX
FREE FLIGHT M/C PARK  Located near Gulgong NSW, Large MX cct , sand cross cct ,enduro loop, juniors track and short cct.Medium to small crowd ,and mainly catering for the modern SX/MX set ,but very technical and well maintained tracks.Costs about $30 a day .Some of the ccts are acceptable for VMX ,and there are plans to have a special VMX track to be constructed in the near future.Sand is the main soil type here having a few small rocks here and there, the main MX track is irrigated to keep the dust down.A well run park with all the usual ammenities (except food). The park is well supervised and controlled with the owner actually onsite and riding the ccts ,husband & wife team. There is camping onsite also.I would rate a 3.5/5 for VMX

I am trying to keep this list going so we can all benefit by knowing where we can ride legally. I have asked Graeme to eventually put this in it's own heading in the Clubroom section so we can all reference it. Please add to this list whether you are in Australia, NZ, Europe or the US. I and I am sure others will benefit and appreciate your contibution.

Just to be a pain, is it possible to get this section of the forum broken up into state by state sub-sections. Don't know if this is possible?

What a fine idea. I can't do it as sub-bards I don't think, but if not I'll make it as sticky posts.

It has been my experience that even with a registered bike it is not always easy to find somewhere to ride without being harassed. When riding in the hills east of Perth we used to come across bush walkers, mountain bike riders, 4 wheel drives and people on horses out in the middle of nowhere. We always used to shut our bikes down or ride past slowly when going in the same direction. It just seems like so many different sports are vying for the use of the same bit of bush. Its not always that safe to have multiple different outdoor recreations operating in the same location.

I believe with the new freeway south it has now opened up the whole bottom end of the state with city riders now becoming members of the south west clubs.
With urban spread the hills of Perth are now not probably a good option.
Some of the wheatbelt farmers have opened up there 1000 odd acres for a few riders.

When flying into Perth I look down on those tracks and wonder, imagination running wild.
Now I know.

West Coast Trailbike Safaris is a must do. They run an awesome show down Kirrup way, between Donnybrook and Balingup.
