Fork Re-chroming, whats the limit?

I have a DT3 250 that has wear and some light rust on the fork tubes.
What sort of miriacles, if any, can be performed in the re-chroming process?
Can wear marks be filled with chrome and still be servicable?
The existing chrome is worn through and looks like slight wear to the tube.

In theory the tubes are ground after chroming back to the correct size which would repair a certain amount of wear but not deep pitting etc

Hard Chrome plating which is what we are talking about here can be built up easily to 1.0 mm or so thickness in your case its a nominal strip and re chrome followed by centre less grinding back to size.
In the case of normal wear and tear it as in the case you have outlined it is as simple as checking how straight they are (with a 1 metre rule or rolling on a flat bench) and sending them of to a specialist in this area .
If they are way bent and have a crease in the tube at the base of the triple clamp forget it but the company that you choose will check for straightness before they do any work and let you know
do not worry about the pits they will be filled with chrome anyway
Good luck with it Bruce

I got my YZ80 forklegs done at Rad Hard Chroming, they were fairly pitted, they came back perfect and the chrome is very tough, more like on a hydraulic ram than decrative chroming, pitting is no problem, not sure about forkleg ware.
cheers Dale.
