In the DT box, 1st is lower and 5th is higher. The centre three are identical (and in my book identical across DT1/RT1, DT250/360 and MX250/360 (and I think YZ250/360)). There maybe a variation in the primary ratio (clutch basket and primary drive).

For mx racing, and racing in general, the close ratio mx box is much more perferable. With the DT box and low seconary gearing (making the centre three effective), first gear is unusable, and top is not much better. The wide ratio DT box would be a limitation and frustration of your tuning efforts.

I USE A DT GEARBOX IN MY MX360A, WITH NO PROBLEM, ONE TOOTH DIFFERENCE IN PRIMARY GEAR BETWEEN THE 250/360,  WENT ONE TOOTH LOWER ON THE FRONT SPROCKET, IT PULLS LIKE A TRACTOR, THE WEBCO HEAD MADE A DIFFERENCE, CIRCLE F PIPE IS NEXT ON THE SHOPPING LIST.
