Tank cracks
« on: May 10, 2013, 05:58:44 pm »
Has anyone had luck repairing plastic tanks that have cracked.

I have heard of the problem but never seen it with a crack running right next to where the tanks sticker had been.

The bike in question  is  a Yz250 L...

A common problem on YZ's and IT's. Often the cracks don't go all the way through. mainly a problem when they get hot.
Can be welded with Poly Ethlyne rod, quite sucessful. Some people may even have the right colour rod.

I've had a couple of plastic Hodaka tanks welded up. In no time at all they split again down the side of the weld :'(. Darcy

Thanks for all the advice.....over the weekend the tank seriously cracked about another six inches either side..... >:(

I think the re-introduction of the fuel to the tank pushed it over the edge...dang it....  Clarke tank now on the way...
