Diamond Dons Riverport National 2008
« on: May 01, 2008, 10:04:39 pm »
Hi Everyone!

Now that CD5 is over, I will have some time to put up a few photos from my recent trip to Diamond Don's Riverport National in Jeffferson, TX.

There will be an article in the next issue of VMX, but these photos are extras and will give a different and personal perspective on the event...

Firstly, hanging out with some Good 'Ol Boys in the "Balls to the Wall" cocktail bar.

AJ the of course you did not see any of those buses... the steering wheel is on the wrong side and it makes them very difficult for poor cousins Aussie to drive....... ;)
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

hey firko,  cant remember the thread you mentioned him in but you talked about JIm P, i have been going through some old US cyclewords building up info for my log book/eligibility stuff and you should see some of the crazy stuff in these mags, most pre 74 even a Duc like yours as a SSS, anyhow back to the point here is one of your mate Jim selling a line of hat's.  ;D

p.p.s note also re airhearts, as i agree, you were correct in letting that bike though at nats, they are legal here is proof see rear disk on the champion FT.    ;)

ill try and pull out some more of this stuff you should see the chooper pipes, some good A/F stuff too, funny you never notice this stuff till your looking for it, there is even a factory Yamah skyway PIpe for the MX 250 that they claim reads 85 db.  :o

AHRMA Vintage Nationals are like that.  Those "Diesel Pushers" (RV's) seem to be the norm and not the exception.  A lot of the folks involved in the pre-75 bikes have retired (sold business, home or both).  They are at a time in life when they want to travel in luxury.

The first Post-Vintage (post-74) race I participated in, I rented a truck, drove their alone and slept in the truck. I still drive to races in my Toyota Tundra and sleep at friend's houses or in a small trailer at the track.   a few racers sleep in tents.  So, Vintage racing has two extremes over here.

hi ya Mr TRed
If most of them are owned by retired people that's ok then,we have a few years to catch up.
Most people in the VMXWestAussie club are average age is 45ish.Two 18 year olds. You can only start to compete when you are 16.
There is only a couple of those Mescidze Benz high van things (large shopping trolley).
Are you on the west or east coast of US,I have read and heard of Washougal and am still trying to work out where it is.
cheers

vmx,

I'm on the West coast (Northern California).  Washougal is near the Oregon-Washington border.  It is 10 hours North of here and well worth the drive.  ;)

Found ya on the map. :o
Hope they have a by pass around all those citys to get north.
We have to go through/skirt Perth to get to our VMX events, make the run alot slower.
Being 2 hours south of Perth.
Our next one is 1 and half hours north east (NO Perth)from home on the 25th May.
Should be a few sidecars, as three are back from South Australia for an event.Westren Australia got two seconds pre 75 and pre 68 class.
When are you racing next and where?
cheers
