Piston rings for ktm 495 wanted
« on: February 12, 2013, 12:42:25 am »
I have a 83´s 495 cylinder that has been honed to 92.88 mm diameter to get good geometries. Current piston rings are now about 1.0 mm end gap, which is too much. Thus, I would like to get a set of new, good-quality (chromed ), tailor-made rings for this new bore.

Does anyone know of any reliable supplier/manufacturer ?

I have managed to get a new set of rings, as the ones I had were having some 1.0 mm-plus end gap, which is too much.  New rings have 0.4 mm end gap, which is ok. In this picture you could see the old rings and the new rings, which are of a  “golden” color, because  they are hardened chrome rings.

I read this chromed rings are the one required for this steel cylinder. Is that right?. Would not these rings wear too much the cylinder as they are supposed to be harder than Cylinder?
