I don't know where you got the idea that the 650 weighs a ton, if you look at the specs it has the same dry weight as the 550. That's why I went the 650. The bore is the same on the 550 as the 650 but the 550 has a slightly higher piston. You may be able to put the 650 crank and piston into your 550 but you would have to ask someone that knows. The later 650 is an actual 628cc.

That's why I went for the 650 as well, as the brochures show the same weight as the 550. No point taking a knife to a gun fight when you are going for a ride in the fast, open stuff
. With the low first gear in the 6 speed box, the 650 is still very nimble in the tight stuff as well, although it tends to boil the coolant easily if you ride in hot conditions without much air flowing through the radiator. I bought a PWR heavy duty radiator to try and overcome this on mine. I will be taking my 650 on a ride to Cape York in a month or so. I also bought a new FE570 with the factory radiator fan option, for riding more gnarly and slippery stuff. The 570, with its lay down engine design, seems to be able to find traction in places that other bikes struggle.
Bergs could possibly become more collectable soon, (especially the 570 being an iconic model ), because there are strong rumours that KTM will cease Husaberg production in 2014. As one of bosses at KTM now also owns the major share of Husqvarna, there is probably no need to own two of their competitors.
