Kawasaki VIN Decoding - Help please
« on: January 24, 2013, 10:48:10 pm »
I've done a search but can't seem to locate a Kawasaki VIN decoder.  Can anyone help with the following VIN's

Frame: KHI DX250C 000171
Engine: KHI DX250A 007866

and

Frame: KHI KX250B 000777
Engine: KHI KX250AE 011613

Thanks in advance

I have been looking since I saw your post. But have come up with nothing. Maybe the best idea would be to ring a long established Kawasaki dealer.
We have two very helpful ones here in the UK. Cradley Kawasaki and Corby Kawasaki. Fantasticly helpful stores staff, especially with the older bikes.

I don't know much about the KDX's but the second one is a 1982 KX250B1. Mine is KX250B 000687.

The KDX would be a KDX250C - 1983-85 model but which year I wouldn't know. With a low number like that it could possibly be a 1983 KDX250C1

Yeah that was to be my next step Grouty as I have also searched the interweb looking for help but couldn't comeup with anything other than US info on later model stuff.

Thanks for your efforts  ;)

Thanks for that info Stevo, it's a great help.  I previously thought the KX was a 1983 model but sounds like it's 1982.  Is it the "B" that signifies 1982?  If so does the "AE" on the engine signify 1981 or is it normal for the letters to not coincide?

I guess the same question relates to the KDX as the frame is designated "C" yet the motor "A".  Is this normal or are the motors and frames not matching?  Is this even possible that the motors are interchangable in certain years?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to learn as much as I can about these green machines.

Cheers
Craig

Awesome Stevo, was there anything on the KDX's?  Can you post a link to where you got that from?

THANKS

I managed to find it on this forum where a guy had already done the leg work via a nice Kawasaki dealer...

http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/780296-kx250de00xxxx-engine-id-what-year/

I didnt really do any searching for KDX info but I am pretty sure that the 83/84 KDX has the same engine code as the KX. The cylinder might have been different on the KDX, and a few other bits but its basically the same engine.

Simo old mate, it’s not that we don’t like you, your question was important to us, we’ve just all been very busy that’s all. Our wives have been nagging to do stuff around the house. There was a good movie on TV, we had to take the dog for a walk, you know how it is. ;D

From my receipts it seems that the frame No hints at the model
Your KX should be a B and the KDX a C

The 83, 84 & 85 KDX 250’s were all much the same bike.
Hmmm I just looked up and there was no KDX 250 C, only a KDX 200 C
KDX 250 A1 – 80
KDX 250 B1 – 81
KDX 250 B2 - 82
KDX 250 B3 - 83
KDX 250 B4 – 84
American lists don’t recognize the 85 but they were brought into Aust.

KDX 200 C1 – 86
KDX 200 C2 - 87
KDX 200 C3 – 88

As for the KX, the 82 was still air cooled, the 83 was the first watercooled
