This is CYCLEGOD calling
« on: July 26, 2007, 10:37:58 pm »
Greetings motorcycle mortals  :P 'tis I CYCLEGOD
Here is my motorcycling history....
'Twas long ago back in the wilds of southern New Zealand in a groovy 1973 that I came across an abused and abandoned 1970 Yamaha HT1 90.
Upon closer inspection, disassembly and reassembly it was revealed that the disgruntled previous owner had left a point gap of 0.0000000. When set correctly I commanded "Let there be SPARK!!" and with a mighty roar of "riingg--ding-ding-phut-p'ting" there was life  :).
O.K O.K lets get away from the omnipotent melodramatics  :-[ and back to the real story of a freebie I got from my idiot brother who said I could have it if I got it running (I sure showed him ;D) after my early fiddling and fumbling through DIY mechanics I finally had a ride/crash/ride/crash/ride yes! I managed eventually to keep it upright and stable. Had a few good years on the HT1 before getting into MX on a used TM125 in 1976 (got massively blown into the weeds by all the RM125A's & CR125M2's), '77 saw a new RM125B come my way followed by a '79 YZ125 in that year, 1980 YZ125G was a woeful disappointment (tooooo peaky) but on the plus side my parents bought a 30 acre hobby farm on which I built my own practice track,1981 IT175H now a little tired of MX time to give enduros a try, 1982 RM125Z (the last NEW MX'er I bought) and a used TS185C for street use (the HT1 was just a little too small now), 1983 Still plugging away on the TS185 picked up second hand IT175 top end which fitted nicely onto the YZ125G to have as a play bike. 1984 saw the start of a terrible addiction and affliction, I bought my first 1973 RD350 (for $50, it had a blown crank) I toured a lot of NZ on that bike after I fixed it (my first full engine rebuild) but I sold it and my YZ + IT for a mint 1981 RD350LC with 4000kms on it, which got stolen 7 months later  :'( :'( :'( , with the insurance I bought a '79 YZ250 with a dead engine, a '75 Suzuki GT380 for $120 that only needed a carby flush and a new battery, a written off XT500 (for the motor) and two more '73 RD350,s followed by moto guzzi 850 (more touring) XT500 went into the YZ and was road licenced, the GT380 was traded for a RD250LC that had been stripped for racing but never used, XT/YZ was traded for an IT200. There were a few other barely worth mentioning bikes like a couple of TS185ER's but that was pretty much it until the end of 1988.

I came to the conclusion after my career at Telecom NZ was over that my employment prospects were almost zero in NZ so I migrated to sunny Perth W.A where my RD obsession found a new home (12 more various aircooled, LC's and 2 RZ's) took up post classic road racing (on my one and only Bultaco see pic) did a lot of trail riding on a multitude of MX bikes (3x RM125T's, 84 KX125,2x 84 CR125's, 83 RM500) and dabbled with more road racing on a Kawasaki KR1-S (fast but jeez I had to rewind 7 stators!!) Untill two knee injuries in 1994 (both to the right knee!!!!) put an end to serious competion. Finally last year I did a restoration on a 1981 YZ465 which was my first restoration in quite a few years and now has me doing a DT/MX250A hybrid and two TM125's one of which will be modified to carry a ported TS185 engine  ::) I intend to return to racing but not too seriously I will probably be a C grade hack riding at the back of the pack with a big grin on my face. I will post some pics when they are done.

Well I guess thats enough about me, don't forget to ride fast, stay safe, and enjoy it while it lasts
