RACE cars and bikes from a bygone era will rumble into Camden Showground for the Vintage Speedway Annual Picnic Day on December 2.
Solo motorcycles, sidecars, speedway cars, compact speedway cars and super modified vehicles will be on display.
They have been fully restored and most have raced at major venues across Australia. A highlight will be Sir Jack Brabham's first race car built in 1948, which is on loan from a museum in Europe.
Camden South resident Gordon Nelson will have his Higgins Brothers 1969 speedway car on display, which he raced when he was younger.
Mr Nelson said speedway racing was a popular sport during the 1950s and '60s.
"Speedways attracted huge crowds at showgrounds, it was not uncommon for crowds at Sydney Showgrounds to exceed 35,000," he said. "There are a number of current and former speedway racers living in Camden, so it's a great chance for them to catch up."
He encouraged local residents to visit the showground on the day.
