KX250 Rear Wheel/Rim
« on: July 16, 2012, 08:52:04 pm »
Hi,

Would anyone have a good complete rear wheel or just an 18 x 2.15 rear rim for this '85 KX250 i'm trying to restore? It would appear from research that the rim is the same ( going by part numbers ) as the '83-'85 KX250 and 500's. I know the '83 is gold though.

The hub appears to fit only the '85 250 and 500.

The original DID rim on this bike has so much corrosion that the scrap metal guy won't take it due to the lack of aluminium left :-[. The hub is fine, and the spokes are all there, but it will be a challenge to get them out without too much damage. I could get away with just a rim, but if a complete wheel were available that may be easier. If anyone can help or point me in the right direction i'd be very geatful :).

And if anyone has any bits laying around surplus that will fit the '85, let me know, I may be interested. These Kawasaki's are so much fun ??? :'( :'(.

Thanks
Adam

Hi,

I am still looking for a rear rim for this 85 KX250. I managed to get most of the spokes out and was able to get genuine replacements for the ones that died. They are all nicely re plated ready to go back in. I have looked at Excell's and SM Pro's but they all tell me I need their spoke sets as well and the price just keeps climbing.

I just need a rim that I can re use my hub and spokes and am happy to pay whatever it takes at this point.

If anyone can help me out I would be extremely grateful.

Are these rims the ones with the funny flat profile? The channel in the middle is shallower/narrower than normal and they sorta look wider than they really are.

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Hey k2000x, can you give me an item number or seller name so I can have a look?

Cheers

Hi Adam, I have a new excel rim as a spare for my 84 KX and it looks to be a very close fit to the flat looking DID type. The rim is an FEG410 for a newer KX but the diameter and spoke angles look pretty close to original. Mine is gold. You should be able to find a silver FES410 without much trouble.   cheers steve
