Simons and Fox Factory triple clamps
« on: September 19, 2012, 05:45:50 am »
I've seen many pairs of Simons and Fox Factory Forx for sale on Marks Swapmeet, eBay and other sites over the years.  The ads usually say just press in a steering stem for your bike and install them.  My question is were most triple clamp offsets similar during the "Evo Era" (1976-1981)?  How much mixing and matching should we do?

no they are all different and so are the stem diameters.you will need to either make up a reducer or bore out the clamps to suit if you are using an original stem ,or make a custom stem to suit unless you are lucky enough to buy some clamps that were originally made for your bike.Simons and Fox have their own offset's and are also different from stock although very close to some makes

I had to get steering stems made to fit the Fox Forks on the C&J frames.
One came from a stock 79 XR500 frame (stem too short), the other from a Yam 490 (stem too long and diameter too large).
Given the price of the forks, the additional cost of the stems is comparatively ... "low" (did I just write that? insane me...).
The result is superb, the wallet still hurts.

I do only XR500 79-84, preferably tricked
