pricing a 1974 Honda CR 250 m
« on: January 06, 2008, 05:42:06 am »
What a good start to 2008, found a 250 CR M in full race trim, not a show bike but immaculately  clean. Motor is fresh. I have a price in mind, any ideas on value ? Aus dollars or pounds or USA dollars ? Bike has an after market pipe and works performance rear shocks.     :) :)

People tend to be a bit shy when it comes to putting a price on a bike as the price varies so much because of our idea of what a bike is worth. I would be prepared to pay a minimum $3500 au myself for one in the condition you describe, and have done.Hope this helps.

that sound slike a good starting point and would depend on how many others around looking at the time.  I reckon they are worth BIG BUCKS (thats coz I have one) - but a good race ready one shouldn't cost more than maybe $4000 as you have described.

cheers

Yes I got it. It is leaving the USA bound for South Africa within the week. The bike is sweet. It has a good pedigree, this particular bike was highly rated by those in the know.
Thanks for the interest

Just a quick update on my initiative to get a 1973 Honda. In order to get the bike out of the USA you need a pink slip, unlikely to be fortcoming for a bike of this age. I did the next best thing ship it out in parts in three seperate shipment. Finally three months later the last crate has arrived with motor and pipe. Frame and tank etc all assembled not bad. This was the bike that Gray Jones raced in the USA last year and supposedly won on. That is the genuine story ex Vintage Iron.
I will post a picture later in the week when it is hopefully assembled.  :) :) :)

I am also on the lookout for a 73 / 74 CR250. There is one advertised for $5000. sounds like everything has been restored / new. Has MT250 bottom end though? apart from the gearbox ratio/s are these up to the task?
Anybody got the same thing and any advice whether this is too much, or better hanging on until a bike with CR bottom end turns up?

For 5 k I'd be hanging out for one with thre correct engine. MT engines are way different to the CR.
