1984 240 WR bush turkey
« on: May 01, 2008, 09:24:01 pm »
On the way back from CD5 I met up with a bloke with an 84 WR 240 in his shed that runs  :D.  I'm thinking Vinduro and VMX here.
It is original but really shows her age.  The plastics are cactus and the tank is badly stained a lovely tan colour.  It has the original Betor shocks and they seem reasonable - shafts not pitted.  Forks are pitted and will need rechroming and rebuilding - they top out badly.  Levers need replacing.  Motor has reasonable power when I rode it briefly. Ignition works! ;D  Original headlight cowling missing.  Tyres are poked but rims seem OK.  seat needs recovering.  Basically needs a complete restoration from the ground up.

What do people think a fair price would be for this bike in this condition? ??? I dont want to rip the guy off but she is going take some time and coin to get restored.  I'm thinking somewhere between $500 and $1000.

I notice Fernando had a restored one for $6k at CD5 but that is too much for an 84 WR 250 in my book - not desirable enough to me anyway.

Thoughts???

For some reason that I cant understand they dont pull much cash for a bike that works so damn well. Wish I had kept that one.

Sold mine  a few years back to a guy  near maleny for $1800   with a fully reconditioned engine/gearbox and powder coated frame and reciepts for over 4 grand.

May help you in working out what  to offer for your find .
 remember husky bits aint cheap.

What are we dealing with here? A twin shocker or a single shock bike like Pokey shows?  If it's a twin shocker shouldn't it have Ohlins shocks? I don't think Betor is right. By you description I wouldn't pay any more than $1000, tops.

Dont pay too much for it. It took me forever to get $800 for a WR400 in good order. Not a rebuilder like your looking at.
Watch those Huskies, they like chucking ya off. lol  ;D ;D Reason for sale!!! Little woman very happy to see it gone.

Hello . Betor in 1984 made some rear units to the Husky spec . ,they look like ITC ohlins  in every way. In my opinion with post 80 Huskies when pricing look at the cycle parts , if the piviot come rear engine mount is worn you can back it that the rest of the bike has been flogged.Pay attention to crankcases lower frame tubes ,kickstarters[high ware]etc .Plastics are affected by storage as much as use and are replacable ,repairs to components blow-out big time if your resources [stock] are limited .From your discription I'd say  @$800.00 would be good buying for a runner , parts flow  through model to model on alot of hardware, remember buyer BEWARE1! Regards Jimbo.

Thank you knights of the round bar stool!  I am now calibrated!

Yes indeed Firko it is a twin shocker and Betor did supply shocks for the WR's in 84.  Owners could also specify Ohlins.  Reviews of the day suggest the Betors were pretty good suprisingly.

Here is a photo of the turkey.

Yeah it was Hoony.  However in 84 the CR 125 & 250s were already watercooled but still running twin shocks.
