rm465 swingarm
« on: July 29, 2012, 09:22:10 pm »
Hi . My '81 RM 465 has a badly cracked eye on the swing arm. I found a replacement from a 125, it looks the same except about 20mm longer. Can anyone advise me on its suitability? I found it strange that the 125 arm was longer than my 465 arm.
Cheers, Shane

If the swing arm has the Full Floater anodised on instead of the stickers. You would have an 83 model swing arm.
Also check to see if the distance from the swing arm pivot to the uprights is different. 200mm on the later 240mm on the 82.
May have a spare if you get stuck.

Thanks DPROJECT, my swingarm has the stickers, and distance from upright to pivot eye is about 210. This distance is the same as the 125 arm i found but the overall length on the 125 is about an inch longer than my 465. The extra length is between the upright and axle bolt. My 465 arm may not be the original? The 125 sticker on the other arm is between the upright and pivot bolt eye.
If the 125 arm is not suitable, how much is your spare arm?

Got a few different options here ::)
81 RM125; Swing arm bolt center to overall length 610mm. Bolt center to upright bolt 240mm.
83 RM250/500; 630mm and 200mm
83 125 ; 630mm and 220mm
81/82 RM250/465 ? 615mm and 220mm.
You could almost use the 83 125 and have a slightly longer wheelbase

I am located in North Queensland. The arm i looked at must be the '83 125 arm. Mine is definitely the 81 465 as per your measurements dproject. Thanks for that, some more info for my workshop manual. I like the idea of a slightly longer wheelbase, and the kind of riding i do i doubt i will notice much difference. $200 inc the bearing kit installed sounds like a good price from that place in Narellan too. My arm is pretty bad though, will try to post a pic.
Do you have an '83 125 arm dproject? How much if you have it?
Thanks, Shane
