I think what Mick-De is alluding to is like this.
The Laberal party had a junior conference and they called themselves the Young Libs (you remember them?)
The Labour party decided to follow and they became the Young Labs

Then - the Country Party decided they would have a go and they became the Young C.... (oops can't say that)

I still reckon that instead of elections, which with the current crop of politicians and the way society is going is all passe' anyway.  That we should have a 'survivor' style show, were all the politicians get put in an isolated location and have to tough it out.  The winner becomes Prime minister.  We get to know who they really are because we see them at their best and worst.  It would cost the taxpayer less to produce the show than an election campaign and would actually turn a profit from advertising etc. Ratings would go through the roof as it would be more entertaining than all the other crap. Win win all round I say.

Once elected, you could put the winning party in a house and call it 'Big brother'  people would watch that over 'Parliment'.  We could actually get the politicians to make money rather than spend it.  You could put the opposition party in another house and the parties would have to compete against each other in Japanese game show style competitions.  Whoever wins gets the deciding vote on proposed bills.  I see this as the future of politics to fit into a modern world.  You might laugh, but this is a very sensible and plausible way into the future and I really do not see any other option.
