hey guys i got my hands on a ty175..as i understand they were a trials bike of sorts, how similar are the engines to the seemingly more common dt series, the bike its self is ok ..but engine bits are needed..as well as a full exhaust system .. how hard are parts for these going to be to get..any help at al would be great..thanks

ah, it's me again rocky, just give it to me for a real cheap price and all will be fine mate.
seriously though, they were around in abundance in the day so parts should be pretty easy to sniff out. motors are similar to the dt but not exactly the same. probably closer related to the 6 speed YZ125 c/x than the 5 speed DT.
exactly what parts do you need?

it need a gear shift spline and a kick starter mechanism as well as a exhaust pipe... its my brothers bike ..and he just wants to use it to run around the bush and learn on...is this an applicable bike for this stuff or would he better off with a dt..

Some bits are still available over the Yamaha counter, but need an appreciative parts interpreter.
If a paddock basher is what you want, there must be heaps of running DT's around of various models.  Have a look in the Trading posts or post a Wanted in one for an engine for parts etc for the TY.
What state you in Twinrock?
