DT1 FORKS.
« on: June 06, 2012, 09:10:56 am »
A mate is restoring a DT1. He is having trouble disassembling the forks to replace seals etc. The fork legs are steel. Any clues please. Thanks

Put a long screw driver down the tube to lock the internal so that you can then turn the lock nut at the base of the fork.

Thanks Pancho and green machine, that info and diagram will solve the problem. My mate used to have a manual but it's lost. Maybe he should have hung the book on the wall alongside the bike.Martin

Glad to be of some assistance Mat
I did the forks on my RT1 10yrs plus ago, the seals were available from Yamaha as they were common to various models, plus I found the whole process fairly straight forward
cheers pancho.

Thanks Pancho, I have found seals for anything are available from any bearing supplier. All you need to do is be able to read the numbers. Never had a problem with seals for my Bully's. CHEERS.

The top of the damper rod has 2 flats machined on it so if your stuck you can use a bar with a 12.5 mill gap and that will hold it in place . Iain
