Millards win Weston Super Mare
« on: October 19, 2012, 01:20:46 pm »
The Millard bros from Bath have won the sidecar/quad class at this years Weston Super Mare sand race held each year at the seaside resort town of the same name.
In its 30th year, this beach race is a big 'end of year' wind up for many teams and the grave yard for many old outfits as they are used for this race then parked behind the shed and left to rust-unfortunately.
The beach is normally as flat as (well it was when we went to visit there in '87) and the circuit is built using dozers to make dunes for the crews to climb so therefore a good start is imperative as no-one wants to get caught behind stuck bikes on those dunes.
The best the boys had finished in the past was second in sidecars in 2010 and they missed last year with GP commitments, so this was their big go. it was also their last ride aboard the Husaberg powered unit as next year they are moving to another as yet not named maker to power their WSP frame.
So a holeshot it was and they lead the whole way for the 3hr event, only stopping each hour for gas-though after the 1st hour they had push the last 200yds to get fuel as they had run dry.
To cap off their great win they were the first outfit to ever finish in the top10 overall. That topped off an
otherwise ordinary year for the lads after finishing down on the year before result of 10th in the world.
Let's see what the new brand of motor will do for next year.
