Qld Sidecar crossers @ Rockberg
« on: May 06, 2012, 07:19:22 pm »
A good field of seven (well for Qld it is!! we had two rows on the grid FFS :D :D :D :D :D) turned up for QVMXs Rockberg race day today near Caboolture on the north side of Brisbane.
Popeye debuted his recently acquired Wasp KTM lightweight in the growing evo class to join Isaac Higgs and Lisa Fox came out on Ronnie Ashes Wasp Honda four and also debuted her new passenger-none other than one John "I'll never get on one 'o those fockers" Tate  'You shopping trolly racers should get a life" etc... etc.... are words I recall hearing form his lips in the not too distant past. He must be reaching a significant birthday or something like that to change his mind so readily.
The track was tight and very technical for not just the newbies as it followed a creek for a bit and had lots of neg camber and disappearing terrain to follow.
Our Wasp had wheel bearing and then/therefore front brake issues and we had to park up for the day which was taken once again by the McMurdo/Hollaway ridden EML/GR650 Suzuki chased on the narrow and tight circuit by the new pairing of Broad/Shaw on the nippy little DR500 unit. Nick Higgs had Dave Rotherum aboard and had his Norton/EML humming before swapping with Popeye and testing the Wasp/KTM for the 2nd and 3rd races.
The last race saw McMurdo stand aside to let Hollaway/Fletcher take the GR650 out for some laps/laughs and after leading for a lap they stalled and had trouble finding a gear which let Broad and Shaw get by but then the DR had some rear wheel issues and that let us back in front which we had to the finish.
A great day of lovely sunshine and even lovelier commradery tied together a great race day held by a great bunch of folk who love their old mxers.

Sounds like you all had a hoot at Rocksberg. Wish we could make it but to keep the EML reliable, the front swing arm is getting re bushed at the moment. ;)
You don't have to be, but it helps.

We re-did ours during the week which took all of the play out of the front end and Adam reported that it was brilliant, however the 'play ' in the front meant the tolerances for the front brake assembly also tightened up which in turn stopped the floating bracket for the caliper to get tight and subsequently break off leaving us with no front brakes and a caliper flapping all over. Not a good look and something else to sort before the Nats - that and the drum rear we have to put in and get sorted and safe.

Better now than in the middle of the nats.

Try to pick one that's not so prickly next time please.
