Western Motorcycles Sydney West Dirt Track Series
« on: April 13, 2012, 11:08:12 am »
I would like to urge all that live in Sydney and have bugger all to do on Sunday to rock out to Nepean and have a look . . .

The whole idea of the Sydney West Series is to raise the profile of Dirt Track in Sydney, strengthen City of Penrith MCC and improve Nepean Raceway both as a facility and its profile within the local community. . . . (over 250,000 people live within 20 minutes of the place and bugger all people know about it).

A lot of work has been put in to the Series, radio coverage/advertising, local paper advertising, promotional posters all over the place, invites have gone out to various recreational Motorcycle Clubs and we will have journo's from local media at the track on Sunday . . . .

I have been told that over 60 entries have been processed thus far (supposedly more than any Penrith or St George day have had before) so riders participation is great . . . but  . . . what we really need is a crowd on the hill.

Potential sponsors and media will take motorcycle racing seriously if we can demonstrate that the public take it seriously!

I am a bit sick of hearing that our sport is dying and that someone should fix it . . . I believe that it is up to us all to "fix it".

Clubs need to learn how to promote meetings not just to the racers, but to the public at large. Just as the people involved with both

the Penrith Club and Nepean Raceway are now doing.

So if you have not much to do on Sunday, spend $5 and come out to Nepean, catch up with people you may not have seen for a while,

you might even enjoy it.

Well done Brett, Penrith MCC, Nepean Motorsport and Western Motorcycles.
Sorry to be negative when your post is postive.
Pitty you couldn`t get St George MCC on board because it would help the  "fix it"

Micks, I think you know my original concept was for a "Sydney Dirt Track Series" but i could not get all to agree on the colour of shite . . . . so . . .  then i floated a Sydney East Series (StGeorge MCC) and Sydney West Series (City of Penrith). St George hasnt pick up the ball and run with Sydney East Series concept so in a way you are right . . . . HOWEVER it is important that all understand that a big % of officials for tommorrow are from the St George club.

I fact that i really appreciate.

Hope to see you at Nepean tomorrow.

At the end of the day Brett it really should be the "Sydney" Dirt Track Series, how many tracks do we have available?
It's a shame that some of the clubs involved can't see past there own nose sometimes because we've got a good thing happening out there that not enough people know about.
Tony Garrard has been prepping the track for about a year now and we started to see a big improvement toward the end of last year.

Note, kick off has been bought forward to 9.30am, another good step.

A big thanks to all involved in the resurection.

Good luck for Sunday. I would be there if I was close enough. ( In QLD now).
I raced there a few times in the 80's.Im sure the track has changed since. It had a very long straight from memory.Left hand turn 3/4 of the way up for dirt track and long track went straight ahead. It use to get a bit oily ( im it it doesnt anymore lol) ;D
