Maico possible project
« on: April 06, 2012, 10:55:29 pm »
Had a look at a 75 Maico 250 today but not sure what its worth and what to offer, don't want to offend this bloke but don't want to pay to much either.  Front wheel is wrong 23" plus not sure about the whole front end,  I think it will scrub up ok motor turns over and feels ok.  Cover is undone over electrics but its dry inside and from what I can see they look to be complete.  Tank has had a rough repaint but appears to be ok.  Will need a total rebuild so what are your thoughts.

Everyday I find one more name to add to the list of people who piss me off.

The bike's a '75 MC250. It's a bit of a roughie but I've restored far worse specimens. The most outstanding 'problem' is that it's fitted with Honda XL S forks and front wheel so you're up for a set of 38mm Maico triple clamps, forks and front wheel right from the git-go. The early release bikes on this model were nearly all grounded with gearbox hassles but it looks like that bike's copped a fair bit of use so I'd presume any transmission problems have been sorted back in 1975. I'd offer the guy $500 and see what happens.

I'm thinking I might buy this Maico.   So ... can anyone point me at some trees, forks and maybe a front wheel at a reasonable price.  There are some on ebay USA but the postage on heavy items like these is a real killer.  Not in a great hurry to buy the bits for this project,  I have a CZ and a Greeves dirt tracker to do first.

p.s.  Branchy having trouble getting a pm to you, so if you can pm me a landline phone number (they are free calls to me)    I'll give you a call (include best time to ring).
