How did you find out about OZVMX ?
« on: March 07, 2012, 09:10:15 am »
For me it was a customer that told me about it while he was picking something up.
I had always been a bit skeptical about socializing on the net but I somehow became hooked.
Because of this site I have gotten to know a lot of good people from all states that I would otherwise never have known.

Cant remember  ::) but i think it was through Livewire VMX site  :)

Its very addictive though , but as Geoffrey has said i have met many many really great people and learned a hell of a lot about old bikes as a result  8)

Also when i first signed up on the old site i was completley computer illiterate  ::) Im still pretty ordinary at it but thanks to this site i am a lot more capable with computers than i was 10 yrs ago  ;D still cant ( or dont want to) Text with the phone though  ;)

Inspite of the occasional flare up  ::) iv'e still yet to meet a bad bastard in VMX either in person or cyber space  :)

I think I was just searching for some specific info regarding an old bike and came across the site by accident. It's certainly been a valuable resource for a lot of people.

A friend told me about another friend who was pretty crook so I googled him and low and behold I found the internet was more than just porn.
I usually check what is happening a couple of times a week and post when I can help or need help.
Some people have so much knowledge about old bikes its incredable.
I thought you were supposed to forget as you got older.

I just followed Graeme over from the original Petshop and Yahoo group.
I found that when searching for SP370 info.
Sad, but true...........  ::)

I can't remember...
Was probably while cyber-stalking Freakshow, I guess. ;D

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

What Tony said! The difference is I was looking for yamaha 500 info.

This site was started after the passing of Ray Ryan, before then it was a Yahoo group
The older I get, the faster I was

and this little old lady at the table next to me just wouldn't shut up about this old BSA thing she'd found on one of her craft days at a friends...
anyway,
she went on to say she'd found a really great source of info on the net,
well,
one cuppa tea led to another and before i knew it,
i was signing up to OzVmx...
can't remember the old dears name but i think she still posts regularly...

in reallity,
i can't remember :)

Another one who went searching for stuff on sidecarcross.
I am on a couple of other sites that are similar but this has got to be the best. The info posted here is quite staggering at times and the photos and links are also fantastic. Just look at the post on the YZ250 frame at the moment- where else would you find people with enough knowledge to not be able to ID an old yammy :D. ( I reckon the one with extra tabs is an IT ;))
It's also a great place to wind up a few of the less 'worldly' members-all good fun.
KEEP IT UP!!

i remember the local (Canberra) mx round some years ago now, where us usual old bike suspects were sitting shagged out in the pits, when graeme first flagged the idea.  we all said 'internet - what's that?'  no, we said, sure, that'll go down a treat, go for it, which he then set about doing, and the rest is history.

graeme is a selfless, generous, very well balanced, low profile, great guy.  we're all the happier for what he's done for us (me especially, as a personal friend - and regular recipient of his cast-off adb's and da's!).

on a negative note, i've also got him to blame for getting me into vmx and mx a couple of years before that.....christ, the money i've sunk into this ridiculous sport.....coulda gone round the world several times over.....

Could be worse-we put a pool in for the kids-cost 50k-and they never go in it. Christ, I coulda bought Wallys Jumbo for that and put it in the shed. :D :D :D
More good stuff from this site over on another page-selling tickets to bring crook Kiwi over for a race-fantastic site.
