It's hard to tell on such a little photo but it looks like a BSA frame. However the engine looks as if it's a speedway version going by the oil pump on the primary cover and what looks like alloy engine plates in there housing a separate gearbox. My eyesight ain't what it used to be so it might well be a unit motor.

Really sweet example and much info/history in VMX Magazine #19 .Interesting modifications done by Bill Nilsson on page 12.
Eso means Ace in Czech-a winning card in every sense  8)

Here's an early, mid fifties ESO MX. It makes an interesting contrast to the mid sixties version shown previously.


What emerges from showing these ESOs is that it debunks the common misconception that the scrambler motor evolved from the speedway engine. In fact, the reverse is what happened, the ESO unit MX engine preceded the speedway motor by nearly 10 years.

It has a pre unit BSA gearbox with foot rest bolted on through the cover studs.

Follow up on the Eso/Bsa this is a Cheney frame not a Bsa and a pre unit not the Unit ESO that is in a shed near Perth
