Montesa 'Grey Ghost' 125
« on: December 23, 2011, 01:09:58 pm »
Another good buy. Early Monty 125's might not be that competitive compared to the Japanese bikes of the pre 75 era but is that the reason for buying this bike? '72 Grey Ghost Monty's are pretty rare, whatever capacity so this one would make a great collector /CD/ HBBB bike. Of course, it could be turned into a 250 with an engine swap. ;D For $850 this is a steal
FOR SALE

72 Montesa 125 mx for sale $850 obo. Got the bike intending to restore it but just don't have time. It’s fairly complete, the front fenders not original but the fender bracket is and so is the rear fender, its also missing the side covers. I have two seats for it I was told that one of them is original the other isn't not sure which of them is correct but you get both. It has a Mikuni carb on it a the moment not sure if that’s correct either. It has the correct Pipe, the tank is in good condition, has some wear but isn't cracked and doesn't leak. It has the correct forks with the Montesa logo. The wheels are good, no flat spots, cracks, etc. The chrome on the bars has gone and will neeed re-chroming or replacing. It ran when I got it, I'll give a quick once over tomorrow but don’t foresee any issues. Email me for more pics.

Any questions give me a call I can help with getting the bike to a local shipping company or hold it for a couple of weeks once payment is received

I once owned one of these gems for a bit and the 250 motor isn't a swap , for one they drive on different sides.
I wonder what happen to that bike? I have never seen or herd a thing since the guy picked it up.

The Cappra 125 mx (18M) drives off of the same side as the 250's. The 18M engine was no
more than a sleeved down 53M motor. The 4 speed transmission is the same as the 53M.
Using a 175 piston and fitting the magneto from a VR does wake them up a bit.

Not being a Montesa guy, I wasn't sure but I had a faded memory from back in the day of a guy in my club turning his grey 125 into a 250 by swapping engine bits. I knew you'd sort it out Jared ;D.

Nice little vintage bike to ride and enjoy, they are not a quick bike, but ok for their time.

That's Billy Brown, ironically I got a Christmas card from him just today. I've got his number here somewhere, I just have to find it. His is a 5 speed Jim, isn't yours a 4 speed?
