Preparing for 2012 - Helmets
« on: December 11, 2011, 02:39:15 am »
Hi Guys,

I've decided to be more prepared for 2012 than I was for 2011...  Bikes ready before the season starts, riding gear sorted out etc...  You know the story.  You think you'll finish things off inbetween meetings, but something always gets in the way..  (work? family? health? laziness?  ::))

Anyway, I'll always wear modern protective equipment at race meetings, but for things like CD9 and Vinduros I quite like the idea of getting into character.   (Brad?   ;D)

So I've just had a couple of open face helmets painted up.  One in a very '70's Orange - my Dad had a Bell Magnum open face in that orange/red back in the day.  And one in the US ISDT Team colours (they call it the 'Skunk Stripe') for use on my ISDT replica IT..

Hell, I figure if you're gonna go to all the trouble of restoring an old bike, a bit of period kit can't hurt too!!   ::)

Got them done by Davey Crocket's painter here in Brisbane, and he's done an excellent job!   :D

Both Helmets started out as new white M2R FG Customs.

Those twowere brand new M2R FG Customs.  Retail for around $150 I think.

Distributed by McLeods.

They're supposed to be a copy of the old Shoei open face helmet.  Fibreglass construction and full AS1698 approval.  (is that the correct number?)

And they come standard with the stud suitable for Jofama style mouthguards.

Pretty comfortable too.   ;D
