CR400, 1974 mod TIMING

Hi,
What is the right timing for a CR400 ,1974 MOD.   It has a new pomie ignition on it, they say 1.8 off TDC. but it will not run on that.

Your not setting the timing at ATDC  by any chance ?? as it should be BTDC.

No ,it is in the right place, just think 1.8 is not right i think about 2.8/3.0. I have tried lots of settings but no good, thinking maybe the thing is faulty the spark is not that good.

3.61mm btdc or 22 degrees

What is the pommy ignition in question ?
They have some good ideas, but dealing with their companies can be a real struggle.

ELECTREXWORLD Yes you can say that ,i had it for a year before i got to that stage of putting it on ,i tried 6 times to get some imformation in that time from them only when i serial emailed them for a week they answered me .  Saying it was the wrong one it should have a external rotor and the timing was 1.8mls when i asked them to send me some weights for it or the right one they went quiet again. Just had enough.

They do list an Aussie distributor at email address [email protected] which may be of some help. I tries for ages some years ago to get some sort of sense out of a pommy ignition manufacturer called Kirby Rowbotham for a system for my roadrace CB350 : the more I attempted to nail him down for info the more elusive he became...
Recently I googled him and found apart from being an ignition manufacturer he is a solicitor among other things...yeah, right.... ::)

Giving up taking it off!! and putting the Motoplat back on at least it will push start. Beware buying one, no after sales service.

As old fart said, Electrix are not punter freindly but heaps of tech info on site,2nd kick for the bsa now and motor seems to get off bottom better.

Could not get my Bultaco 370 to run any good at all, on my Electrex ignition.
Had it graphed by Small Coils in Geelong and it has variable timing curve going to 10 degrees at 1000rpm, up to 17 degrees at 3500 rpm then drops off to 8 degrees at 7000rpm - no good for Bullys.
The bike runs great on an old Femsa at 20 degrees flat (2.8mm btdc) right through the range.
They don't even make the systems in England, they buy in the things from Europe anyway, as I found out.
Want to buy mine?? Ha!
