« on: October 19, 2011, 05:36:23 pm »
I picked you a job lot of bikes and bits from a local wrecker today and need a bit of help with some numbers. So here goes.

DT eng and frame #575
I think a MX frame and engine #364, in silver. was that a '73 or '74
2 other motors one a #450 and a #1R8
Any ideas ?
Thanks.

Thanks guys, that helps a bit, except for the 1R8 motor, and the Dt 250 which is complianced as a '76 (c),but it is a #575 number frame and engine not #450. The #450 motor doesn't have a tacho drive the same as the other motors, and has a plate covering the auto lube drive hole, which made me think it was something else other than a DT.

Is the plate a neat die-cast thing? I had one on a MX125 motor - in hindsight, it was probably YZ125A (or maybe an option for an MX?).

Haven't seen a 450 motor that isn't DT250A/B/C. Is the head radial finned, or parallel? Radial = B/C.

1R8 = early DT400 monoshock? I had one years ago, and I'm pretty sure it was that prefix. Might have been 1R7 (in which case, 1R8 is probably early DT250 mono)? It was 6/76 compliance, which is very early for a monoshock bike.

Fairly certain my 77 DT 400 D was IR9…
Unfortunately the number wasn’t recorded on the receipt

Pics might help, see what I can get sorted tomorrow.
I would appear that the either the 450 or the 1rg motor has an internal rotor ignition ?? Where Dt's ever fitted with these?
The only 1rg part I can find on the net is a IT125 g base gasket.

Strange the things you remember, I just found the Rego papers and it was listed as IR9

And...
The annual fee was $9.40 :o :o (Rego Portion)
Plus $65.20 for Insurance

Ahhh, those were the days

Ok here we go.

The 450 motor with internal rotor ignition, cases look the same as the other DT motor, just different numbers.

The 1r8 motor, totally different cases, clutch actuating arm on top of cases (not underneath like other motors)

This cylinder is also different to the others,  but doesn't fit the 1r8 cases, is it DT or MX ?

The MX frame... the motor is currently in a DT frame, what's the tank from, fits perfect but has lockable cap ?

Ignition is YZ250C or earlier. Maybe MX250B.

Different location of clutch arm = monoshock motor. Can't offer more than that.

Barrel appears to be late twinshock (DT-B/C).

DT-A tank is identical to MX-A, except for tap and cap.

Ian,
Didn't see the s/arm bracing till then, the top mounts look like a period mod, but well done. The back half of the original mount is gone but could be easily redone. I think I'll keep the laydown look. Sorry mate MX bits not for sale, but I will be getting rid of the DT and bits, once I get through sorting it all out.
