the old monty will fall apart with a small internal rotor vibration
jim
I don't think that's a worry Jim. Heavy flywheel effect controls how quickly the crank pick up revs, how it delivers its power and how controllable it feels to the rider (even Rossi and Ducati have been playing with the flywheel weight in a pursuit to make the Duke more ride-able for Rossi's liking) . Motors with heavy flywheel are erroneously described as 'torquey'.
Vibes are caused mainly by the balance factor. Heavy flywheels can disguise balance issues but the lack of flywheel is not the cause. I'm sure Lozza can explain better and in more detail if need be.
I'm guessing but I think Lozza is suggesting a programmable ignition - right up your computer programmers alley I would have thought
. If so it should be an interesting experiment.
If you want the new ignition and MX flywheel you could always add the Monty left side enduro weight. I'm not certain if it fits to the MX crank or if a new left side crank half is required.
