The Chinese culture of; for the sake of progress a certain amount of loss of life is acceptable has been brought to Australia. Not good.

Utter bullshit.

Do you know for example if a Chinese worker dies the Boss is at risk of being executed if he is found to have been negligent? Are you aware of the rather large size of a lawsuit payout against a company for death or injury?

I don't know who spins all this bullshit I see daily but it certainly doesn't come from people who live here.

Most companies here do what they can to make safe work practices and it's the worker who declines to use the safety gear and safe work practices. I can not for the life of me get some of the workers around me to continuously wear ear plugs and glasses when they are grinding. The problem lies in education and lack of middle management structure and nothing to do with this Urban Myth of "human sacrifice".

I can't even get them to wear seatbelts in my car, I stop and say we ain't moving until you put it on - apparently you're not a Man if you wear one and you're not a Man if you stop at red lights, I'll leave it up to you to imagine the outcome of those 2 combined.

You'll be right Shano, that Chinese steel is rubbish.

Urban Myth, you get what you pay for - we use tube for our 100,000 psi machines thats equal to anything in the world and then you can buy recycled tube for next to nothing in side streets. How many engine parts such as cranks, rods, gearboxes etc are now made in China for the big ones such as VW, GM, FORD etc ...

,along with a complete lack of care once the product is on the boat.

Ahh total correct but thats your fault - It's an Eastern culture that Westerners don't understand, there is no comeback - payment to a Chinaman is a culture based agreement that you have accepted and are happy with what you have received - The deal is finished. If you are buying big from China and you don't check the product before you pay for it then tuff shit, your fault for trading/trusting as a Westener in an Eastern country. And further, the next lot you buy will be more expensive because "the deal went so easy the last time they will probably accept an increase without complaint this time"

I think you need to exclude the Japanese from this particular statement, they operate at a far higher level moral behaviour and of consumer responsibility.

Basically Chinese companies will do anything to make a buck.... in my experience it is not culturally based but rather everything is a zero sum game to the Chinese, for me to win you have to lose.

Hey Cheapracer,I respect your opinion mate.
But I suppose I dont know much about China, after all its not like I worked for a Aussie multinational that manufactured a steel based product out of its Gaungzhou plant for four years, that I used to sell, along with visiting it last year  ::).

In all seriousness, I bet you enjoy the odd KTV session up there.I really enjoyed China and its people, but as you said, you get what you pay for,and there is a complete lack of care once the product is on the boat sailing to our fair shores-this I know from experience, not urban myth or hearsay.

Good luck with your Metisse frame manufacturing project.

.... Gaungzhou plant for four years,

Bloody Guangzhou cat eating bastards .....

So you were here for 4 years and still got rolled over - I'm sure they welcome you back  ;D - seriously though, I know people who have been here for more than 10 - 15 years and they still can't work it all out.

I don't work for an Oz company here, I am quite involved with and am a part of Chinese companies daily and I am married to Sichuan Province's number 2 'Famous' Lawyer so not only do I know and see what goes on from the Chinese side I have happily helped a number of Foreigners out of the shit that they continue to trustingly blunder into here.

If you need a steel product give me a yell if you can't find satisfaction elsewhere, I live and work in China's number 1 GDP industrial city and steel products are the main here.

Yep, the dollar's on the way down Ali but if I can't get what I want here, I'll still shop in the USA.

Whatever happened to Cheapracer? Here one minute, gone the next. Maybe he's busy pumping out those Metisse replicas. I'm going to China in a few months time so maybe I can check on the progress for any of you who've put your name down for one ;D.

Alison,

I don't think it has anything to do with the relative strength of the AUS $. It probably has more to do with the arrangements between US suppliers and their Aussie agents.

You can't sign a distribution agreement with another company [in another country] and then actively go behind their back and sell into their territory. Sure some dodgy companies will do it, but I reckon that it says a lot of good things about those that actually honour their agreements.

It is slightly ironic that a US company has more loyalty to its Aussie distributor than we do. And no it doesn't make me think twice about spending $$'s
