CR500 rebore
« on: February 22, 2008, 10:47:36 pm »
Sending my cylinder for a rebore and ordering a vertex piston kit too. First time I have done a rebore on my 93 CR500. Just wondering what I need to watch for. I ahve heard I need to have the exaust bridge relieved and the ports chamfered once rebored. That sounds O.K. What abount the decompression grooves. Will they need to be re-cut. Also does the head need any work. I am not looking for power gains but just longevity.

Hey Stu,
Give it to Alby at "SERCO" 90 Deshon St Woolloongabba. He'll look after it, they chamfer the ports and supply Vertex and racers choice pistons. If you want OEM quality pistons try Pro-x.
Just remember to hand finish the ports using a small rat-tail file and 600-800 wet and dry.
cheers
Big Bill.
