Disc brake rotor legality.

Really a question for our friendly commissioners, but I'm happy to listen to any opinions...

1. Does the style of brake rotors matter? Some of the original rotors are getting very difficult to find but later and/or aftermarket ones seem to be plentiful - but they look different.
I'm not talking about larger rotors, just slots vs holes vs solid.

2. What about the "wave" rotors? A lot of the aftermarket stuff seems to be wave rotors - would this be OK?

There was an Australian manufacturer who used to advertise that they would make it if you supplied the pattern.

If its for a pre 85 race bike the right thing to do would be to not use a wave type and get a more period correct looking disc made.  Theres no rule saying you cant have a custom made wave disc, it will just look stupid on a old bike, but you would not be able fit a wave disc off a 2005 bike for example. I had a disc made for an 85 YZ250 in 2002 as it was impossible to find an aftermarket one back then. I will get the guys details for you. I think the Chain Gang may have made it but i also have another place in my head that i thought made it.
Ok the other brake disc guy is Jeff Stokes ph - 07 32054273 or Fax 07 32054623 The numbers a few years old so they may not be current. I got onto him when searching for someone that makes custom made discs.
