Flywheel Removal RM400N

Gday all,

Im having a bugger off a time trying to remove the flywheel on my RM.

I have bent  my bolts on my pulley, tried to jar free with hammer taps??

So has anyone out there had any success or some tips on a good way to remove with out destroying the flywheel.

Brother   "Mutch " had the same problem with his a few months  back, got it in the end by using a bit of heat from memory.

Yep i had the same problem,ended up buying a puller set from from engineering shop but had to modify it so it would hook under the flywheel.
I used a propane burner around flywheel for about 5 minutes then mashed the top of the puller with a heavy hammer.

The last time i removed the flywheel i butchered it from heat and hammer, i was hoping there was a miracle cure...@#$%#@

Have you tried one of the K&N pullers that uses the 3 bolts to screw into the flywheel ?

Amazing what a difference an overnight break makes..

This morning i tried again to removed the flywheel and with 2 hits of the hammer whilst under load from the puller the flywheel popped off,,,,easy

The way I've always found best is to use some high fast heat if possible, and then quickly undo with a good air-rattle gun on your puller bolt. Then cool off things with air, or wet cloth.

I often find if you have a really stubborn part to remove returning to it the next day and it will come apart easily, I have just removed the flywheel on my Stormer that just would not move (self extracting nut) Left it under tension over the weekend, a couple of taps and bingo! It had actually corroded on.
